My aim is to support you as an individual or a couple to be able to express your thoughts and feelings in a non judgemental environment, enabling you to feel truly heard and to be able to communicate more effectively with each other and those around you. I will support you to make decisions, increase your self esteem, set meaningful and achievable goals and to work though what can sometimes feel like impassable obstacles and difficulties.
I aim to be there for you every step of your journey. My goal is to help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life and maintain successful, healthy relationships.
I offer individual, relationship/couple and parenting counselling in the Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester area face-to-face at my office in Weymouth as well as online via Zoom. I work integratively as a Counsellor which means I incorporate different theoretical approaches that enable me to respond to you in the way that feels appropriate to your needs.
My predominant approaches are person-Centred, systemic and psychodynamic theories. This means our work may involve looking at your past, your childhood and your relationships as well as the people around you now. This can help to gain a deeper understanding of why and who you are now, what coping mechanisms you have developed and how these may or may not be working for you. This information can help to work through difficulties and 'stuckness' and help find new ways of moving forward.
Parenting Counselling offers parents the opportunity to come together or alone to discuss their children who may be experiencing difficulties with behaviours, feelings, changes and mental health issues etc. We will look at how to begin a joined up parenting approach. We may look at the impact of how you were parented on your parenting style and how that works with the parenting style of the other parent and child and how that may impact the family system. We can use this information to make meaningful changes and set couple, parenting and family goals that work well together and not against. Only the parents are seen for this therapy.
I am also an accredited member of the IARTT (International Association for Rewind Trauma Therapy).
Rewind is a technique that can help those suffering with PTSD and trauma to reprocess the memory in such a way where the memory is no longer able to access the individual, but the individual may access it. This technique can relieve the unwanted thoughts, feelings and anxieties from a trauma that can deeply impact a persons life. I can offer Rewind as part of your ongoing counselling experience or as a stand alone therapy.
I have been working for Relate for over 5 years as an Individual and Relationship Counsellor. I have also coordinated Relate's Reducing Parental Conflict programme and Relate's Choose2Change programme for perpetrators of domestic abuse.
As well as my work for Relate, I work in private practice offering online, telephone and walk and talk counselling sessions, Rewind therapy and Wellbeing in the Workplace talks to organisations and businesses either in person and face-to-face.
Previous to Relate, I trained with the NCT over 16 years ago which is where I first experienced learning the person-centered approach to counselling.
Recently I have decided to train in the IARTT Rewind therapy for trauma and PTSD.
I am continuously updating my training and most recently completed certificates in counselling for the Brain Tumor Charity and Adoption UK.
I hold an advanced DBS, indemnity insurance and adhere to the BACP ethical framework.
